Residents with Intellectual Delays and Learning Differences Thrive
A unique community designed to offer independent living for the intellectually disabled is now open just south of Dallas in Waxahachie, TX.
Daymark Living, a Greystone management consulting client, was created with one purpose: to help adults with learning differences and intellectual delays live, learn and thrive. It is a resort-style neighborhood aiming to assist residents in gaining independence.
This one-of-a-kind community incorporates two, three, and four bedroom homes with shared spaces that will connect residents and foster the establishment of relationships. In support of its mission to facilitate independence in a supervised, safe and supportive environment, its residents are encouraged to continue their education and develop social skills through the programs and atmosphere provided in its college-like setting.
Daymark’s campus consists of three main buildings containing classrooms, game rooms, a 24-hour monitored fitness center and an outdoor resort-inspired pool. Other features include a mock kitchen, movie theater, clubhouse, sports court, computer labs and study lounges. A full-service dining room serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Residents also have access to an on-site shuttle service providing them with transportation to off-campus volunteer opportunities, employment, shopping and entertainment. All of these components result in the residents being provided the opportunity to learn life skills and make friends while becoming more self-reliant.
At full capacity, this 144,853 square foot gated community can support 202 tenants in 28 furnished cottages. As of April 4, 2019, 21 residents have moved in. Daymark Living sits on 20 acres with an additional 20 acres used for outdoor activities. Poston Gardens, the 60-acre property adjacent to the Daymark complex, benefits adults with intellectual disabilities, employs Daymark residents and boasts over one million tulips!
Greystone provided Daymark Living with pre-opening operations consulting for clinical, operational and management financial services. Now that the community is operational, Greystone is continuing to serve as a management consultant.
