SERVICE, PROGRESS AT THE TERRACES AT BONITA SPRINGS

Two members of the Greystone team helped bag and seal food for the Harry Chapin Food Bank during their monthly site visit to The Terraces at Bonita Springs, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) under development in Bonita Springs, Fla. Pat Gleason and Justin Nowell joined a morning crew of 16 in measuring out bean servings and sealing them in plastic bags pre-labeled with cooking instructions written in English and Spanish. This service project was part of the Lend Lease Foundation’s Community Day, a yearly event that allows Lend Lease employees and partners to give back to the communities in which they live and work. Lend Lease is providing construction management services at The Terraces. Greystone is serving as development consultant.

The Terraces is sponsored by SantaFe Senior Living. Once finished, the community will include 144 independent living apartments, 48 assisted living units, 40 memory support residences and 40 skilled nursing beds. The entire project is now enclosed, and crews are currently installing drywall in the healthcare area and framing in independent living. GREYSTONE’S MERNA SMITH SPEAKS ON MARKETING INCENTIVES

An ALFA Update story posted this week discusses the use of marketing incentives in senior living. The story quotes Merna Smith, corporate vice president in Greystone’s Marketing group, on incentive rationale, incentive variety and what the future holds for senior living marketing.

An excerpt from the story: “‘We found, like many other operators over the last five years, that our clients are very sophisticated,’ says Greystone Communities’ corporate vice president Merna Smith. ‘They perceive they’ve lost money in the real estate market, whether it’s a perceived or actual loss. To combat that, we started looking at incentives where it would be a win-win for both [us and them].’”
